Your guide to the 1805 Rooms
Everything you need to know about your new private home from home.
Welcome, 1805 Club members.
Some of you have been supporting the Theatre Royal for many many years and will fondly remember the 1805 Rooms in previous incarnations. For you, using the 1805 Rooms is like reacquainting yourself with an old friend.
However, we are also welcoming a whole cohort of new members, both Associates and Friends, who may have joined our ranks in the last few years and will never have even set foot inside the 1805 Rooms. For you newer members, I hope this journal entry can help answer any queries you might already have about how to use this space.
Whether a new or a returning member, we look forward to welcoming you. Read on to see exactly how you can make use of these private rooms, newly renovated and refurbished just for you.
A NOTE ON ACCESS TO THE 1805 ROOMS
ASSOCIATES will always have access to the 1805 Rooms when a performance in the Main House is scheduled.
FRIENDS For the first time in our history we will be inviting you to use the 1805 Rooms when booking numbers allow. You will receive an invite to use the 1805 Rooms in your pre-show email and you will be invited to sign up to the guest-list for that performance. We cannot guarantee access during every performance. If you have any queries or questions whatsoever please contact the Box Office: [email protected] or 01225 448844
YOUR JOURNEY INSIDE - *UPDATE AUGUST 2026*
As we commence works on our amazing new community studio theatre, The Billings, we want to share an important update on the 1805 Club arrangements during the building phase.
From 10 August onwards
The usual 1805 Club entrance, staircase and WC at the top of the stairs will be closed.
Access to the 1805 Club will be via the Main House Auditorium only.
Prior to performances, the Front of House team will greet you in the Main House foyer and check membership details before guiding you through the Royal Circle to the 1805 Club. For Opening Night Afterparties, you will leave through the auditorium.
We kindly ask that you wait to be escorted by Front of House staff and be mindful that company members may be warming up on stage as you move through the auditorium.
You can still expect a warm welcome as an 1805 Member. We will do our best to keep the 1805 Club Bar, Board Room and Meddings Rooms open throughout the works. The Snug will be closed until building works are complete. Should any part of the rooms unavoidably need to close, we will provide you with as much notice as possible and keep any disruption to a minimum. Members will be able to use the WC next to the Bar and the nearby Royal Circle ladies’ toilets.

THE ROOMS
The 1805 Rooms comprise 3 adjoining rooms: The Bar, The Meddings Room and The Boardroom.
Order in The Bar and take a seat to enjoy the lively pre-theatre atmosphere.
Walk down into The Meddings Room for some cosy comfort and to watch your fellow members come and go.
The Boardroom, with its 4 meter long 17th century oak dining table, will be open for larger events and parties.
Make your way into the main house auditorium using your own private doorway from the entry lobby. This door will take you out to the Royal Circle where you can enter and exit the auditorium as you please pre-show and during interval.
After the performance feel free to come back through the Royal Circle/Auditorium door to collect your coat and bags before leaving.
