Dates and Time:

24 July – 26 July

10am – 4pm daily

Wed 24 Jul

When we watch a play, we always think about the actors, and sometimes the directors, but every great play started off as an idea in someone’s mind.

This year, we launch our first ever Writing Challenge. We will assemble a team of fledgling writers, who all have something in common: the desire to say something.

Focussing specifically on the art of writing, and the complexities of storytelling, this week is for young people who don’t want to find themselves in the spotlight, but who do have a love of Theatre or Film, and who are driven to put pen to paper and let their imaginations flow.

Participants will be led by a professional writer/director in three days of exploration, experimentation and exercises.

Skills development:

- Structure, plot and narrative
- Creating and developing a character
- Finding your voice as a writer
- Creating dramatic action
- Writing effective dialogue

We know that a writer loves nothing better than having the chance to see their work brought to life, so following this intensive exploration of text we will be inviting participants back to see their work performed live on stage by young performers in our New Work Showcase.

How the three days will look:

- Timings: 10am - 4pm with an hour break for lunch.
- Day 1 and 2 will lead participants through different writing exercises, prompts and workshopping.
- Friday: the last day will invite actors into the workshop to read the scripts developed over the two days. The Day will culminate in a showcase in front of an invited audience, all in the spirit of experimentation and development.
- Parents, guardians and friends will be invited to the final performance.

Ticket: £150

Dates and Time:

24 July – 26 July

We believe cost should not impact a young person’s ability to access the arts. Therefore, we offer bursaries for those who require financial support. Should you require a bursary, please email [email protected] for an application and to reserve your place while this is being processed.
