The Theatre Royal Bath Theatre School offers specialised training and professional insight into the world of theatre, both on and off stage.

We run weekly sessions for young people aged 5-25; offering skills workshops in a variety of theatre disciplines and creative arts. Post 16, our members develop their own theatre practice; as we support them to enter the professional world of theatre with confidence in themselves and skills.

This Autumn Term our 16+ company will be staging I Am England by David Lane (co-created by Sita Calvert-Ennals), and directed by Kate Pasco –

“And this, Marc… is the start of that… We’ll make you untouchable. Immortalised in history forever.”

Isolated and lost on the edge of a world it once dominated, an ancient, proud, nation thirsts for nostalgia, for empire, and for revenge.

A young soldier is caught between duty, glory, expectation, and truth. Now, his country calls on him again, and Marc finds himself at an impossible precipice. When the world is falling apart, whose responsibility is it to hold it together?

I Am England was originally developed for TRBTS by writer/director duo David Lane and Sita Calvert-Ennals a decade ago, inspired by Shakespeare’s Corialanus and a rapidly shifting political landscape. Now, ten years later, it returns with its unique, urgent, and prescient voice.

NB – Members wishing to be part of the company will have to be available for production week – November 18th – 26th (outside of school hours), and be willing to take on additional rehearsal commitments arranged mutually.

To book an informal chat with our Executive Director, Sophie (they/them), about whether the group is right for you please email Sophie.jacobs-wyburn@theatreroyal.org.uk

Term dates

w/c 12th September – w/c 21st November

Half term will run from 24th October – 30th October with no sessions for regular Theatre School groups.

Fees:  £150 per 10-week term for weekday groups (ages 8+). There is an additional bolt-on cost of £50 to take part in a production.

We believe that finances should not impact a young person’s ability to access the arts. Therefore, we offer bursaries for those who require financial support. Should you require a bursary, please email lindsay.baker@theatreroyal.org.uk
