Event Information

Sunday 25 September

With Tessa Yates

Did you know that everyone can choose happiness for themselves, no matter what? Author, Illustrator and all-round happy person Tessa Yates (aka The Happy Book Lady) will explore what happiness is, and how we can choose it in our lives no matter what. Tessa, and a gleesome threesome of cycling giraffes from her picture book Geoffrey Finds A Bike, will  show us how to live our best lives, even when everything goes wrong.  With Tessa and Geoffrey’s top illustration tips and simple visual story-telling techniques, we’ll learn together how everyone can be an artist of their own happiness!

As a 7-year old, Tessa Yates loved making comics and she’d photocopy them to share with her friends. After a wonderful winding career as an accountant and a teacher, in 2017 Tessa took a step-up from her photocopier days and founded Bath-based The Happy Book Company, where she made 3 beautiful picture books about choosing happiness. She’s currently spending a lot of time drawing the things she sees outside, as she studies for an MA in Children’s Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. You might spot her around Bath juggling a sketchbook and her happy sidekick, Mr Fluffy the dog. All this creativity makes her exceedingly happy, and every time she faces a challenge to her happiness, she makes a book about it.
