“You do not need to be acquainted with the novels to appreciate the fine writing, and even finer acting, that makes this surprisingly understated but powerful play such an engaging watch … absolutely mesmerising” Wiltshire Gazette & Herald

“It’s good fun, good storytelling with some lively Scottish vernacular, lively direction by Robin Lefevre and excellent performances throughout … if you’re a crime fiction enthusiast this is an excellent night’s entertainment” Western Daily Press

“We really enjoyed this and I wouldn’t want to give any of the plot away so if you love a good crime thriller story, splendidly crafted and acted then the only recourse is to buy a ticket!” What’s On Bath

“The performances are excellent, and there is much to enjoy in seeing Edinburgh’s famous detective brought to life on stage” StageTalk Magazine

Ian Rankin’s Rebus novels have dominated the detective fiction market with the ensuing television and radio series ensuring the detective’s legendary status. Now, alongside award-winning playwright Rona Munro, Ian Rankin has brought his beloved creation to the stage for the very first time.

Detective Inspector John Rebus is retired but the shadows of his former life still follow him through the streets of Edinburgh. Whisky helped but now he’s denying himself that pleasure. When the daughter of a murder victim appears outside his fl at, he’s back on the case and off the wagon…

Playing John Rebus is Ron Donachie, best known for playing DI John Rebus in the BBC Radio 4 dramatisations of the Ian Rankin Rebus mystery novels and for his role of Ser Roderick Cassel in the hit TV series Game of Thrones. . The cast also includes Golden Globe and BAFTA nominated Cathy Tyson who starred opposite Bob Hoskins in the iconic film Mona Lisa and appeared in the hit TV series Band of Gold as Siobhan Clarke, and John Stahl, best known for playing Richard Karstark in Game of Thrones, as Big Ger Cafferty.

★★★★ “As gritty, tormented and uncompromising as the original … fine and eminently theatrical” Observer
★★★★ “Classic Rebus twists and turns … There’s something here for everyone, whether you’re an ardent fan or just someone who enjoys a police drama” Reviews Hub
★★★★ “Totally absorbing” Reviewsgate
