The celebrated detective Hercule Poirot boards the legendary Orient Express, enjoying the prospect of a luxurious rail journey from Istanbul to Calais in the dead of winter.

★★★★ “A first-class ride all the way… en exemplary adaptation of Christie’s ingenious murder mystery” Guardian

“Henry Goodman is OUTSTANDING… entirely cracked the mystery of how to put a new spin on the world’s most famous detective… like the great actor he is” The Times

A cast of seventeen presents Agatha Christie’s legendary mystery in this sensational production, coming directly to Bath for its only UK dates following its premiere at the Chichester Festival Theatre. The celebrated detective Hercule Poirot boards the legendary Orient Express, enjoying the prospect of a luxurious rail journey from Istanbul to Calais in the dead of winter. The train is surprisingly packed for the time of year; only the intervention of the manager secures Poirot a first class berth, alongside an intriguing and glittering company of international travellers. But just after midnight, the Orient Express screeches to a halt, marooned by a snowdrift. And by morning, one passenger is dead…

Nobody can leave. A guard appears to be missing. A killer is in their midst, and Poirot must deploy his ‘little grey cells’ on the most difficult case of his career: one that will force him to question his deepest beliefs. Adapted from Agatha Christie’s masterpiece by Ken Ludwig, whose Olivier and Tony Award-winning stage works include Lend Me A Tenor and Crazy for You, this spectacular and sumptuous new staging is directed by Theatre Royal Bath’s Summer Season Artistic Director Jonathan Church (An Ideal Husband, The Price, In Praise of Love, Betrayal) and designed by Robert Jones (Oklahoma!, Mack & Mabel).

Two time Olivier Award winner Henry Goodman (Assassins, The Merchant of Venice) makes a welcome return to Bath to play one of the most iconic characters in British literature, Hercule Poirot, following his portrayal of Lucian Freud in Looking at Lucien in the 2017 Summer Season, and memorable performances in Duet for One and The Birthday Party The cast also includes Marc Antolin, Philip Cairns, Samuel Collings, Joanna McCallum, Taz Munyaneza, Patrick Robinson, Laura Rogers, Sara Stewart, Joanna van Kampen and Timothy Watson.

Murder On the Orient Express comes directly to Bath from its premiere at the Chichester Festival Theatre this Spring.
