★★★★ "Bold and utterly brilliant! As relevant today as it has ever been" Manchester Evening News

“Brilliant… An excitingly modern interpretation … The audience whooped and hollered their appreciation” Western Daily Press

The ruined aftermath of a bloody civil war. Violence and chaos ravage the landscape as survivors struggle to build new lives and protect the ones they love. Ruthlessly fighting to survive, the Macbeths are thrust toward the crown by forces of elemental darkness.

Shakespeare’s infamous exploration of betrayal, corruption and abuse of power is brought to bold new life in this modern retelling directed by NT Artistic Director Rufus Norris (Cabaret, London Road) and designed by Rae Smith (War Horse, This House) The National Theatre present this exhilarating new production which combines thrilling staging and striking set design in a theatrical event that propels Shakespeare’s classic title into a post-apocalyptic world of anarchy and uncertainty.
