‘Fairness and tidiness and truth are for people who’ve got what they want already.’

In their comfortable house, David is busy designing a new architectural scheme for a run-down area of South London while his wife, Jane, is doing her best to help its deprived and struggling tenants. They also have a redevelopment project nearer to home: David’s old school chum Colin and his wife Sheila, whose lives aren’t quite as desirable as their neighbours.

But as Sheila becomes increasingly reliant on their support and David’s idealistic designs move inexorably skywards, the foundations start to shift. Who, exactly, is benefiting from these well-meaning ventures? And to what end?

Michael Frayn’s classic comedy – winner of the Evening Standard and Olivier Awards for Best Play – is a funny, gripping and wryly shrewd look at the unforeseen consequences of our best intentions.

Hugh Dennis (David) and Claire Skinner (Jane) starred in the hugely popular BBC sitcom Outnumbered. Claire’s extensive theatre work includes A Day in the Death of Joe Egg (West End), Nightfall (Bridge Theatre), Mrs Affleck and The Winter’s Tale (National Theatre). Hugh’s many TV appearances include Fleabag, My Hero, Mock The Week and Radio 4’s The Now Show.

Director Charlotte Gwinner was Associate Director at the Bush Theatre, Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse and Sheffield Theatres, where her productions included The Knowledge, Our New Girl, A View from the Bridge and Waiting for Godot.
