Agatha Christie is undoubtedly the world’s greatest crime writer – her books still sell over four million copies worldwide. There is a continual demand for new TV and film adaptations of her work and many famous actors want to appear in them. The Queen of Crime and mystery led a sheltered and privileged life in her native Torquay and her own life was not dissimilar to her books. She was brought up in the comfort of upper middle class society where many of her stories are set. She created some of the most famous characters in fiction such as Poirot and Miss Marple from real people she encountered on the English Riviera.

Come and listen to a talk about her life, what interested and motivated this very shy woman who became our best selling author.

Jane Tapley, the Theatre Royal’s Special Events Organiser, regularly runs Agatha Christie weekends in Torquay and travels the world with her talk on the famous writer.
