Palace, Park and Plants (A Visit to Kew Gardens and Palace)

George III was on the throne for the whole of Jane Austen’s life and his heir, the Prince Regent,was an ardent fan of her works, to whom she dedicated Emma. Join us for this visit to Kew Palace, the Royal residence by the Thames, which has undergone a ten year refurbishment and the beautiful gardens and park which surround it.
Depart 8.30 (Avon Street Coach Park) Return approx 6.30 – 7pm
Cost £37 to include coach, entry to Kew Gardens and Palace and guided tour of Palace. Refreshments available to purchase in several restaurants in the grounds.

As part of the Jane Austen Festival 2008 THE HISTORY WARDROBE returns with this fascinating look at the eternal quest to portray the ideal woman, as the wealthy Lady Vane decides how best to be painted. Fortunately, Betty, her maid, is on hand to help dress her mistress. Inspired by contemporary paintings and journals the Portrait investigates the exotic influences of royalty, archaeology and exploration on a fashionable beauty of the 1780s.

Tickets: £12 to listen only, £24 with lunch

Lunch: Fillet of Salmon with new potatoes, mixed leaves with a dill cream sauce; apple tart tatin with cream; coffee

Michel Roux

Thursday 9th October at 6.30 for 7pm

at the Bath Spa Hotel

The distinguished triple Michelin-starred chef, Michel Roux, will be talking about his new book, Pastry Savoury & Sweet and about his extraordinary life. Tonight’s menu, chosen from the book and cooked by Hotel Chef Giles Stonehouse, will be;- Fillet of beef in a brioche crust with seasonal vegetables followed by his classic Lemon Meringue Tart and coffee. Vegetarian option available on request but must be pre-ordered.
