Surreal Silents
LIVE MUSIC AND FILM with REFLEKTOR
Jan Kopinski (saxophones)
Steve Lliffe (keyboards)
Wednesday 29th – Thursday 30th October
An evening of silent films, all surreal masterpieces from the 1920s to the 1960s, set to live music from acclaimed band Reflektor, who bring a vibrant, thrilling edge to their live soundtracks.
The Flat (Jan Svankmajer, 1968) A man is trapped in a room where inanimate objects frustrate his attempts at escaping with alarming invention. WORLD PREMIERE OF A NEW SCORE
The Seashell and the Clergyman (Germaine Dulac, 1928) Often described as the first truly surrealist film, directed by the first female french director – nothing like it has been seen before or since.
A Propos De Nice (Jean Vigo, 1930) Little-seen, at times erotic film from the director of ‘L’Atalante’ who dies aged just 29. Breathlessly inventive satire of the decadent 1920s.
