The eggpot:
Helping disadvantaged young people benefit from the egg
Involvement in drama can transform young people’s lives by enriching their cultural experience, encouraging their creativity, self-expression and confidence and developing teamwork, presentation and communication skills. But one important issue in B&NES is that the apparent wealth masks pockets of real deprivation, disadvantage and isolation. The egg runs projects and organises performances in schools and youth groups in the more deprived areas to offer disadvantaged children the same opportunities as those from more privileged backgrounds. The egg team frequently encounters young people who would love to get more involved in the activities at the egg but cannot because of their social, financial or geographical circumstances.
So we have launched the eggpot fund to be able to offer these keen but disadvantaged young people ticket and travel subsidies to egg performances and bursary places for regular groups and workshops. If you have enjoyed watching or taking part in drama at the Theatre or elsewhere, please make a donation to the eggpot to help a young person enjoy and benefit from the same experience. For more details about what the eggpot has achieved and how you can give a donation, please download the form.
What could your money achieve in the egg pot?
- £15 would enable a young person and their parent or carer to enjoy a Saturday performance in the egg, without having to worry about the cost of the bus fare or the theatre ticket
- £60 would enable a young person to take part in four sessions in Mission Eggpossible – a monthly play-in-a-day workshop for 8 to 12 year olds
- £180 would enable a young person to take part for a year in YPT Younger, our after-school drama group for 5 – 12 year olds offering performances opportunities in the egg
- £1,000 would establish a weekly pre-school drama group in a rural setting
- £5,000 would establish a new youth theatre company for disabled young people
the egg works closely with Bath and North East Somerset Education team to target those young people who will most benefit from the egg pot. During the current term we are working with Southdown Junior School in Bath and St Martins Primary School in Radstock. Each successive term we will work in two new primary schools, opening the availability of the egg pot even wider.
The ambitions of the egg pot are defined by how much money is contributed to it. The greater the money within, the greater the opportunities that can be offered to young people who would most benefit.

Gift Aid
If you pay UK tax, you can increase the value of your donations to the Theatre Royal Bath by making a Gift Aid declaration when you become a Friend or Associate. This will enable the Centre to claim tax on every payment you make, increasing its value by 28p for every £1 you give.
If you are a higher rate tax payer, you may be able to claim further tax relief on any donations that you have made under the Gift Aid scheme. To assist with your tax return, the Theatre Royal Bath is always pleased to provide a receipt for any donations that you have made.
Other opportunities for tax efficient giving
Your employer or pension provider may be registered for payroll giving (‘Give As You Earn’), in which your contributions to a charity, usually monthly, are deducted from your salary or pension at source and therefore do not form part of your taxable income. For further information, check with your employer. Some companies may also match employees’ charitable donations up to a certain amount.
To find out more and for a Gift Aid form, email Fiona Gourley fiona.gourley@theatreroyal.org.uk or call 01225 823461.
Cheques should be made payable to Theatre Royal Bath Ltd.
