In 2011/2012 the egg theatre piloted a radical new creative education project called School Without Walls. The project was delivered in partnership with children's charity 5x5x5=creativity.

School Without Walls involved a class from St Andrew's C of E Primary School taking up residency in the egg for 7 weeks during the summer term. The theatre became their classroom. Students were given open access to 5x5x5=creativity artists, egg performances, theatre staff and the city at large. This city wide partnership project gave rise to new and different approaches to teaching, learning and engaging with a theatre.

School Without Walls was an experimental project that has proven enormously successful. The project transformed the egg's relationship with the participating school and also transformed the school's attitude towards external venues as learning environments. In September the egg held a conference to share its experience. 120 people from 61 different organisations attended. The egg will be further developing School Without Walls over the next three years.

An electronic report: School Without Walls: A Reflective Commentary is available from the egg theatre priced £5. Please contact creative.learning@theatreroyal.org.uk. Further information about the project may also be found by following the video link below.
