Overview
Recently opened at Stratford-upon-Avon, Lucy Bailey's ravishing version of The Taming of the Shrew with its 1940s Italian setting, electric performances and on-stage musicians, has thrilled reviewers and audiences alike.
The beautiful Bianca has three suitors, but she will not be alllowed to marry until her older sister, the daunting Kate, is fixed up with a husband. Keen to get his hands on Kate's generous dowry, Petruchio steps up to the mark. But with her fearsome reputation and wild ways, is he really any match for her in this formidable battle of the sexes?
Lucy Bailey is one of the UK’s leading directors. Her previous credits include Dial M For Murder, The Postman Always Rings Twice starring Val Kilmer, the National Theatre’s West End transfer of Baby Doll and Timon of Athens and Titus Andronicus for Shakespeare’s Globe.
The cast includes David Caves as Petruchio whose credits include The Beggar’s Opera for Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and Macbeth for Cheek By Jowl, and Lisa Dillon as Katharina who is well-known to Bath audiences for Private Lives in 2010 and The Master Builder in 2003. She also played Desdemona in the RSC’s Othello and starred in BBC1’s Cranford and ITV's The Jury.
