Headlong, Nuffield and West Yorkshire Playhouse present
by Bernard Shaw, directed by Sam Pritchard
4 - 8 April 2017
“The science of speech. That’s my profession. I can place any man within six miles. I can place him within two miles in London. Sometimes within two streets.”
Professor of Phonetics Henry Higgins accepts a bet with his friend Colonel Pickering that he can turn flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a duchess by altering her speech and accent. In the process of her transformation, Higgins and Eliza grow close, but she ultimately rejects his domineering ways.
Shaw's celebrated play was first staged over 100 years ago and is recognised as one fo the most enduring and perceptive of English comedies.
The multi award-winning Headlong is renowned for innovative, accessible re-imaginings of classic texts. The company last visited Bath in 2015 with their phenomenal international hit production of 1984.
Natalie Gavin plays Eliza. Her many television credits include Jericho, The Syndicate, Prisoners Wives, The Chase and Shameless.
Alex Beckett plays Henry Higgins. His numerous credits include Edward II at the National Theatre, and, on television, Love Nina, Cuffs, W1A and TwentyTwelve.
The cast also includes Ian Burfield, Gavi Singh Chera, Flaminia Cinque, Rachael Ofori, Liza Sadovy and Raphael Sowole.
