Jesus Christ Superstar

Jesus Christ Superstar

Inspired by the relationship between Judas and Jesus, this spectacular musical follows the last week of Jesus’ life, beginning with the preparations for his arrival in Jerusalem and ending with his crucifixion.

Originally written as a rock opera album by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jesus Christ Superstar exploded onto the Broadway stage in 1971, where it earned five Tony Award nominations. The show transferred to the West End the next year where it ran for eight years and went on to become one of the greatest and most enduring musicals of its time.

Featuring numerous catchy tunes in many different styles, from the upbeat Everything’s Alright and Hosanna, Mary Magdalene’s soulful love song I Don’t Know How To Love Him, the comedy number King Herod’s Song, to the renowned title song Superstar, this emotional and stirring musical continues to move audiences forty years on from its first triumph.

Bath Light Operatic Group makes its annual visit to the Theatre Royal after recent successful productions including South Pacific, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and The Sound of Music.
