or: Please Don't Use The F-Word; By Alistair Beaton
15 - 20 May 2017
Following an acclaimed, sold-out run at Chichester Festival Theatre, this new razor-sharp black comedy by Alistair Beaton visits Bath as part of a major UK tour.
Fracked! Or: Please Don’t Use the F-Word is set in an idyllic English village threatened by an energy company intent on drilling for shale gas. Anne Reid plays Elizabeth, a retired academic who finds herself transformed from obedient citizen to angry protestor. While her increasingly grumpy husband Jack, played by James Bolam, longs for the quiet life, Elizabeth soars to fame via social media. Desperate to get planning permission, hard-nosed PR men team up with a corrupt local councillor to persuade the villagers that fracking is a good thing but Elizabeth’s having none of it, and mounts the barricades…
The distinguished cast includes James Bolam whose television work includes When the Boat Comes In, The Likely Lads, The Beiderbecke Trilogy, Only When I Laugh, Born and Bred and New Tricks. He was nominated for an Olivier Award for Glengarry Glen Ross at the Donmar Warehouse.
Anne Reid is acclaimed for her many theatre, television and film credits include her BAFTA Award-nominated role in Last Tango in Halifax, Dinnerladies and Coronation Street. She was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role and won the London Film Critics Circle Award for British Actress of the Year for the 2003 film The Mother with Daniel Craig.
