MAUREEN LIPMAN, HARRY SHEARER and JOHN BOWE star in
by Oliver Cotton, directed by David Grindley
14 - 19 October 2013
Gripping, funny, poignant and full of mystery, Daytona is a play with not one but two love stories at its heart.
Set in New York in 1986, Joe and Elli share a love of ballroom dancing and are practising their routines for the next big competition. Despite constant bickering, the love they have shared for nearly fifty years is clear. Then one night, out of the blue, Joe's long-lost brother, Billy bursts back into their lives with an extraordinary story to tell.
The intriguing relationship between these three beautifully-realised characters is at the heart of this rewarding, moving and very funny new play.
Maureen Lipman ‘s previous visits to Bath include Re:Joyce!, Glorious! and Neil Simon’s Barefoot in the Park, co-starring with Oliver Cotton. Her West End roles include See How They Run (for which she won an Olivier Award), and her Olivier-nominated solo show Alive and Kicking.
Harry Shearer is best known as the voice of Mr. Burns and many others in The Simpsons, and for his role as Derek Smalls in the 1984 spoof-documentary This Is Spinal Tap.
John Bowe recently appeared as Judge Turpin in the Olivier Award-winning Sweeney Todd in the West End. His television credits include Prime Suspect and Cranford.
