Sunday Telegraph - Guardian - Time Out - Times - Evening Standard - ALL FIVE STAR REVIEWS
“An exhilirating mix of political satire, modern morality and multimedia spectacle … it is a fantastic theatrical event … FIVE STARS” – The Guardian
Lucy Prebble’s electrifying play sold-out every ticket during its six-week run at London’s Royal Court Theatre, has enjoyed an extended West End season, and now visits Bath as part of its first ever tour. Don’t miss one of the most sensational dramas of recent years.
In December 2001, America’s seventh largest company, Enron, filed for bankruptcy. A year earlier it had been worth $70 billion. One of the most infamous scandals in financial history becomes a unique theatrical event in ‘Rupert Goold’s brilliant production’ (Guardian). Inspired by real-life, and using music, movement and video, ENRON follows a group of flawed men and women in a thrilling tragedy of greed and loss, reviewing the tumultuous 1990s and casting a new light on the financial turmoil in which the world finds itself today. Powerful and pertinent, this is theatre at its most compelling
This record-breaking production is directed by Headlong Theatre’s Artistic Director Rupert Goold (winner of the 2010 Best Director Olivier Award for ENRON and described by the Evening Standard as ‘the finest director of his generation’). Recent credits for the company include Six Characters in Search of an Author, which transferred to the West End in 2008, and King Lear starring Pete Postlethwaite. Goold’s other credits include the multi award-winning Macbeth with Patrick Stewart (West End/Broadway), No Man’s Land (West End) and Oliver! (West End).
The cast includes Corey Johnson, whose film and television credits include Kick-Ass, The Bourne Ultimatum, United 93, Band of Brothers and The Mummy; Paul Chahidi, who has worked extensively at the National Theatre and the Royal Court; Sara Stewart, who played Batman’s mother in Batman Begins and Clive Francis, whose numerous credits range from There’s a Girl in My Soup to A Christmas Carol.
“Lucy Prebble’s fantastic firecracker of a new play, brilliantly directed by Rupert Goold…could hardly be more timely…it is also hugely entertaining” – Daily Telegraph
“Dramatically exhilarating…this is a scintillating production…scalpel-sharp” – Financial Times
“Nimble, funny, clear-eyed, inventive, informative, exhilarating and then sobering, relentlessly entertaining, surprisingly affecting, this is not to be missed. The political theatre of the 21st century has arrived, in some style” – Times
