THE LEGENDARY WEST END AND BROADWAY HIT

“A great golden treat…full of the unsettling intelligence of a director who understands instinctively how the Establishment works” - Sunday Times

Oscar Wilde’s pertinent comedy about sleaze, financial scandals, tabloid exposure and the private morals of public men is set in the world of London parties, politics and diplomacy in 1895. Sir Robert Chiltern, a promising politician, finds his marriage and career under threat when the devious Mrs Cheveley attempts to blackmail him at a fashionable dinner party…

This revival of Sir Peter Hall’s definitive West End and Broadway production of An Ideal Husband brings a stellar cast to the Theatre Royal Bath. The glamorous Kate O’Mara, star of such television hits as Dynasty and Bad Girls returns to the role of Mrs Cheveley, a part she originally played in the West End.

She is joined by her Dynasty co-star Michael Praed, star of the television classic Robin of Sherwood and recently seen in Bath in Sleuth.

Carol Royle has starred in numerous popular television series including, Heartbeat, Crossroads and Doctors. Her stage roles have included leading roles in the Royal Shakespeare Company productions of A Woman of No Importance and Hamlet. Robert Duncan is known for the Channel Four cult comedy hit Drop the Dead Donkey. Fenella Fielding is perhaps best known for her roles in the Carry On and Doctor films and has distinguished theatre credits including Lady Fidget in The Country Wife and the title role in Hedda Gabler. Tony Britton, a renowned actor of stage and screen, whose TV hits include Don’t Wait Up and Robin’s Nest, is a great favourite with Bath audiences.

“Has wit of the most deliciously absurd kind” – Financial Times

“A veritable bouquet of theatrical genres, offering the grip off a thriller, exquisitely understated love scenes, farcical interludes and a blissfully happy denouement” – What’s On
