Weddings / Theatre Hire
Ellen Terry and Emma Thompson have both celebrated their nuptials on stage at the Theatre Royal Bath (in productions of A Midsummer Nights Dream in 1863 & 1990); Rolf Harris and Lesley Joseph were wedding guests (Cinderella, 1992); Stephanie Cole, the mother of the bridegroom (A Passionate Woman, 1994); David Essex, the reluctant bridegroom (She Stoops to Conquer, 1993) and Felicity Kendal thought the ceremony was just pretend – but it wasn’t (Emily Needs Attention, 1996).
You too could join this illustrious list with your own Royal Wedding on the theatre’s historic stage. In the new year on 1996 this elegant Georgian playhouse became the first British theatre to be granted a licence to hold civil wedding ceremonies from its stage.

The auditorium has been compared to a wedding cake – with its tiers of ornate plasterwork, sumptuous red and gilt decoration. The magestic trompe l’oeil ceiling and glittering chandelier provide a fairytale setting for a dramatic wedding. There is seating for as many as 900 guests, although the intimate horseshoe auditorium is also ideal for a smaller affair. Guests don’t even have to leave the building if the Theatre’s 1805 Rooms are used for the reception. This private suite of rooms makes a delightful venue in which to entertain. The 1805 chef is experienced in catering to every requirement and will be happy to discuss budgets and sample menus. The theatre’s own catering staff will ensure that your special day goes off without any technical hitches or missed cues and that everything combines to make a showstopping occasion – guaranteed to make the bride and groom feel like stars!
The Theatre Royal Bath auditorium and catering facilities may also be hired for corporate events
