Ben Hur
This is your chance to be involved…
The Theatre Royal Bath is staging a production of BEN HUR with hundreds of local people – and we want to include you.
BEN HUR is a once in a lifetime opportunity to do something incredible. We are inviting you to
recreate this epic story – complete with slaves, Roman soldiers and a chariot race – on stage.
There are no auditions, we will accommodate anyone who wants to take part – whatever the level
of skill, time and commitment you can give.
You can work with a professional production team on any aspect of the process, including:
Acting – Music – Technical – Backstage – Administration – Wardrobe
BEN HUR will be performed in the Theatre Royal Bath Main House in October 2010 – don’t miss your chance to be involved!
We’re starting by coming to a building near you….
to run a series of taster sessions where you can find out more about what’s involved. The sessions are taking place between now and the end of February 2010:
Thursday 11th March – St Andrews Primary School 7pm – 10pm
Sunday 21st March – New Oriel Hall, Larkhall 11am – 4pm
Thursday 25th March – St Andrews Primary School 7pm – 10pm
If you can’t make it to these sessions but are still interested in finding out more click here to download a sheet of FAQs which should answer many of your questions.
Opportunities for taking part…
To help you decide what might be most appropriate for you, please read the following:
Acting – there will be speaking and non-speaking parts, lead characters and supporting characters and walk on parts. Something will suit you, whatever your experience or availability.
Singing/Playing an instrument/MDing – whatever your level of musical skill is, we can assure you a chance to perform. If you’re in a choir, band or orchestra why not ask your colleagues to join you?
Producer’s Assistant – you can support BEN HUR by working on the administration, using databases, staffing phones and generally making sure you are in on the action.
Deputy & Assistant Stage Managers – you will work with the stage manager throughout, acting as a vital link between the artistic and technical aspects of the show. You will make sure that everyone and everything is in the right place at the right time.
Costume Assistants – if you are nifty with a needle, we need you for a summer of sewing! You will work with the costume designer to dress the cast.
Design/Props assistants – see your handiwork onstage. You will be sourcing and making everything used in the show, under the direction of our set designer.
Technical Assistants – you will work with the theatre’s technical staff ensuring the show runs smoothly. Whether controlling the lighting, covering the stage in smoke or picking up the cast with the spot light, you will be at the heart of the action.
Director’s Assistant – help the director realise the vision. You will be running some rehearsals and really making your mark on the show.
Special Skills
We believe that everyone has a certain passion that makes them tick … what’s yours? Are you a photographer, an archivist, a maker, a great public speaker, a dressmaker, trained dialect coach, an ideas
person, an organiser, a musician? What do you love doing the most? Please let us know what skills you may have to offer the project by filling in the space on the attached reply slip. Offer us something we didn’t know we wanted!
Resources
Are you able to offer anything which we could use during BEN HUR e.g. rehearsal space, storage space, making workshops, marquees, video/audio recording and editing facilities, the ability to host a fundraising event?
Reply Slip
Have a look at the list of opportunities on offer for you to take part in BEN HUR. Then fill in application form with as much detail as you can, so that we can work out the best way to involve you. If you would like
to apply as a family, please fill out a form for each family member wishing to join in (youngest must be aged 8 or over by 30th April 2010). Unfortunately we can’t accommodate under 18’s without an adult, so talk a tame adult into joining you!
